Kim Kardashian by PriscillaW Kim Kardashian by PriscillaW
I finally finished the Kim Kardashian drawing on the awful Canson bristol. If my Mellotex does not get here soon, I will just go get some more Strathmore and draw on that. This paper is way too difficult to deal with. I am not happy with this drawing, but hey, it was something to do :p

Although I don't like Kim, I have to admit that this is an amazing drawing of her.

God, this is amazing.....true talent! I have one question, is Mellotex a brand or the type of paper? I live in the U.S (dont know if you do too), can I get that type of paper here? Sounds like great paper. Ive always heard that bristol paper was among the best to work with, and was about to buy some this weekend. Should I not? What do you recommend?

It's a brand, and I am not sure how to get it as I have not been able to get any myself. I wish I knew how it is to draw on so I could tell you. Bristol in general is definitely the best!

Thi is defiantly very beautiful. I do think there's something wrong with the eyes. One looks a little different from the other. Sorry I can't give you anything more. :)

Beautiful portrait especially the eye's and lips. How did you get the hair so smooth and dark. My pencil shading always has a grainy appearance. Any tips?

Thank you :) I used a charcoal pencil. Everyone always asks that, but it's so easy to just take a charcoal pencil, color in as dark as you want, and then blend if needed.

Thank you for the feedback. Even with coloured pencil I find it difficult to get the blacker areas so dark and clean looking. I'll have to try and mix it up a little! thanks!

yeah, a black colored pencil won't get it dark enough for me either and it's messier.

aww thanks Paula That Canson really is evil. I can't do much blending and I have to basically shade it in so evenly because I know I won't be able to blend with a blending stump.

I used Canson for my Liv Tyler drawing and I could blend a bit, but it's not the same and hard work I don't know if this is any help for you, but it works quite well. I make my own tortillions out of newsprint and they go quite fluffy when your using them, so it helps to break up the fibres on the paper a little, it might be worth experimenting to see if it helps with the one you have

I appreciate the advice, but I think my mellotex should be here soon, and I am doing a color drawing and that's not so bad to deal with on poopy paper

You, too, eh? I bought that Bristol once (gathered it was amazing paper, blah, blah). Went to Finland especially for the paper. Was so happy i got it, although it cost an arm and a leg. Drew on it and... the biggest disappointment of my life. The paper didn't tolerate blending whatsoever. Such difficult paper, i'll probably never use it again. At least not for graphite portraits. :hmm:

But your drawing is amazing nonetheless! :)

Canson Bristol... "supersmooth" something.

yeah, you had the same complaints with it as I do. It's the pits! I basically didn't blend 50% of the drawing because it barely blends anyway without somehow crumbling up and coming off the paper. It's really bizarre.
